Phantom phone ringing

According to this O'Reilly article (yes, there are some not about Web 2.0) phantom ring tones are an increasing phenomenon. Phantom ring tones being an audio illusion in your mind where you think you hear your phone ringing.

What's interesting is that that hasn't happened to me. What *does* happen to me is phantom vibrating-ring. I couldn't count how many times in a week I think I can feel my phone is vibrating in my pocket but it's not. At first it freaked me out because I thought it was the radio bursts stimulating my nerves or muscles, but sometimes I find that my phone isn't even in that pocket. Wierd.

A phenomenon that I do think is to do with the radio emissions is predicting calls. I've been using a digital cellular phone every day since about 1995 and many times I have absent-mindedly picked my phone out of my pocket, looked at it, and a split second *after* looking at it, it begins to ring. I think I'm somehow attuned to the radio bursts that come in before the phone rings (you know the ones - you can sometimes hear them on your car radio or unsheilded pc speakers).

Does anyone else experience this?

me too

I do get the phantom vibrate, but it's usually when I'm on the subway or the bus and I attribute the sensation to the jostling of the bus/train. Although, now that I think about it, there have been times that it's happened when I've just been sitting at rest. I assume we all get tiny muscles spasms from time to time that we normally would ignore, but have now trained our brain to notice. Maybe?

me too me too

So glad I am not crazy. I went to the doctor the other day because the vibration in the left pocket is close enough to the femoral artery, I thought it could be a bruit an anuerysm or something. As the doctor laid the diaphragm over the artery, the vibration started. "Do you feel that, do you hear that?" I asked. Nope, he heard nothing. Gosh, I could have saved the co-pay and used my own stethascope. My doctor said he thought it might be vibration, or twitching in the muscles.....I have started having muscle spasms and charlie horses in the last 6 months. But now I know that this experience is rampant. I have read other descriptions of it on other sites, and it seems to be related to the noises in our environment, everything buzzes or humms, or vibrates. Well, for one thing, I am taking my phone off of vibrate, now! Lili RN

phantom ringing

i was just checking out info on the net about phantom ringing and im suprised that it happens with cell phone vibrations too. i recently got a new cell phone and all of the ringtones seem to match the pitch of the noises of everday life, leaving me constantly thinking i hear my cell phone ring. i have tried various ring tones on the phone, but they all seem to do the same thing. its so odd because i never had the problem before I got this phone! it is annoying to the point that i might just permanently leave my phone on silent. anyways just wanted to let yall know!
